Swim Shorts

Well the title says it all really, this post is all about swim shorts. Something that men for some reason really struggle with. What style suits me? and that eternal question is how short is too short? Its' far easier than you'd think. You don't have to be one of those men that looks like an overweight surfer or has crammed into the tightest budgie smugglers around.

On the subject of budgie smugglers, personally they are something that I wouldn't wear and you have to have a hell of a lot of confidence to wear them. If that's you then go for it but if you have even the slightest doubt then don't even think about it. Swim shorts are no different to any other sorts of clothes, you have to pick the right pair to suit you're body type.

So if you're the confident type but don't fancy wearing some swim briefs then there are other alternatives. Mid-thigh length is about as short as you should go, tighter shorts aren't as much of a no-go as they used to be and they are most certainly in fashion. These are also a good choice for lads who are on the short side, they help elongate your figure. As a general rule, shorter men, keep your shorts above the knee and around the mid-thigh.

On the flip side of that, tall men should go for longer board style shorts. Knee length here is optimum for you, just below the knee is the ABSOLUTE longest you can go without looking like a tit. Keeping with the surfer style, floral prints look best on longer shorts than on shorter ones, so go for a nice blue and white pair, such as these.

For slim guys, you lucky buggers can get away with just about anything you want. Bold patterns are very in fashion and look good on slimmer men, remember though, if you go for a rather jazzy pair its best to go for block colour t shirts to avoid some really shocking clashes. In terms of length, about 2 inches above the knee is a good length, this can work for taller men too.

For larger gents, regular fitting ones will help you out without showing off too much or it looking like you're trying to hide too much. Darker colours are good for you guys and will make you appear leaner whilst still remaining trendy. Our good friend the stripes, will also help you out and make you look slimmer. Remember that rule, stripes make you look thinner, vertical or horizontal.

OK colours are also where people struggle to make the right decisions. Yes white looks great but if you're already fair skinned then they'll make you look like a polar bear. So darker skinned men can get away with white. Blue and red are colours that everyone can pull off and there are also hundreds of pairs in those colours so you have a wide choice. Larger men pull off darker colours the best and they help to make you look leaner.

That's my swim short guide for this summer so if you're struggling: read and digest.

Seamless Summer

For some reason men in this country struggle with summer fashion and it really isn't difficult. I don't think the problem is men being self conscious, if anything its the opposite, men don't seem to care what they look like and that causes problems. For example, a bare chest and a pair of tatty old sports shorts is not a good look, you can't even make a case for it.

Summer is simple, stick to what you're comfortable in (NO not bare chests with sports shorts!). If you're a little low in confidence stick to colours you know you can cope with: white, grey, navy, blue and red. Try to avoid black as it soaks up the sun and gives a closed impression. If you're high in confidence then push into the yellows, pinks, greens and purples. When it comes to pairing shorts with tops, its even easier, light one half, darker the other. So cream shorts, navy shirt and so on. Light on both halves is passable but dark on both isn't.

Another thing men struggle with is buying shorts. There are so many different styles available it can be hard to know what to get. For more formal shorts, go for some flat fronted chino style shorts or even some pressed golf shorts, such as this pair from Ralph Lauren.

For a more versatile pair, go for denim shorts. Let's face it everyone has cargo shorts so mix it up a bit. For those with slimmer legs, go for a slim fitting pair such as these from asos. Those with larger legs go for a loser fitting pair. Length is also key with shorts, generally the rule to follow is just above the knee is the shortest you can get away with.

Pairing t-shirts with shorts is also simpler. Polo shirts go with basically any pair of shorts and are a must for every man. If you don't own one then white is the best colour to go for as it goes with nearly everything. For a more casual look a printed t shirt is a great buy and very in style this summer, there are great deals out there is you act now such as new looks 2 for £15 (see in store.) Another style that is very in are hooped t shirts, these work great with denim shorts and can give you a slimmer looking figure. Try something like this from Red Herring, but act fast while its still cheap!

Finally, men please, please, please buy the right size! Forget what size your wife says you are, measure yourself up and buy a shirt that fits. There's nothing worse than seeing a medium in a small or a large. A fitted £10 shirt looks better than a non-fitting £100 shirt.

That's it from me today, I'm off to soak up some sun. Till next time.

Welcome to Seamless Threads

Hello everyone and welcome to the very first post on Seamless Threads!

I just want to start by giving you a little overview of what I'm going to cover in my posts. Basically I'm a fashion freak and looking at some of the other blogs out there, men's fashion is taking a battering from people (mainly women, sorry ladies!) who know nothing about men's fashion. So this is the blog to read if you want to keep up to date on the latest trends and how to look sweet whenever, wherever, even if you're on a budget. In every post when I talk about pieces I will try to offer two, one at the higher end of the market an one at the lower end to cater for everyone.

If you think fashion is more than a Gucci tracksuit or a wardrobe full of Jack Wills then you've come to the right place. Firstly I have no issue with either of those brands they were just the first examples to spring to mind, it just irritates me seeing some twat decked out in one brand thinking he knows what fashion is. If that's you, please stop, you don't look good, honestly!

Anyway this post was only an introduction so I hope you all now have a bit of an idea of what to expect from now on, so check back for my first post soon.
